Purposely Purposeful.

Simon

Hello happy people. I hope you are finding my musings relatable. I read the last one and was a bit confused by what I was trying to say. I am not going to over edit these posts because it is good for me to read in retrospect and learn about how to communicate clearly.

Today's post is about feeling accomplished and a sense of purpose. I find I often question what I am here to do. What is my role in God’s kingdom. The bible is pretty clear in terms of men's roles. We are often leaders and are called to do so with grace, love, patience and all the other fruits of the spirit. Leadership does not always mean overly charismatic bossy delegation. We can all lead from where we are. We can choose to role model our behaviours on Christ. We can stand up for the right things and work with integrity or resilience.

I find that for myself, what makes me feel a sense of purpose changes from season to season. For now, I enjoy this writing game, serving my community and being a husband and father. These are all things I am seeing the fruit of regularly and that gives me confidence. If we consider the idea of ‘’bearing fruits’’. In a day and age where we want instant gratification, results and recognition. It is hard to transfer our minds away from corporate and societal expectations onto the goals of the Church. Unfortunately for us, the Church is not an organisation that is measured by members, conversions and worship songs. To clarify, I mean the Church as a body not as the Sunday services. Fruit is a good analogy because it takes time to grow. It takes time to ripen and time to become sweet. It also goes off and gets eaten by birds! I don’t want to dangerously preach false teachings so maybe seek a wiser opinion on the image of fruit, but I think my point stands. It can take time for results to be seen. I have learned that I can take comfort from my own growth in doing things I am not comfortable doing. I can also know that I am doing the right thing and often we cannot do more than that. When I used to work, I was often faced with making tough decisions, ones where there no real winners and ones that would upset people. This was sometimes due to their world views, and I had to reassure that I was doing the ‘’right thing’’. Appreciating what is good and right. What is a biblical truth and how to create Godly value is useful in building confidence. Seeing God work does wonders for your confidence. Knowing He is in control can bring peace in difficult situations, it can motivate when we are feeling low, and it can offer a peaceful oasis in the madness of our own thoughts and feelings. I say this with confidence as I dip into the pool of fulfilled promises to encourage me to continue. It can seem hard to see, but knowing that if we are glorifying God, we are doing something right!

I am sure you will read all this in a different way to the one I intended. I am not trying to use big words or clever imagery. I hope you feel how real this is to me and how my past experiences have led me to feel this way.

There is a powerful bible verse I go to regularly; it is in Isaiah 43. Go read it.
